Homeschooling your kid has its many challenges, so make sure you are prepared for it.

- Curriculum is meant as a guidance only. So be flexible in your approach and make sure the kid enjoy the schooling process. Focus on the learning and not the curriculum progress.

- Always use example when you teach.

- Most children hate writing, and therefore extra care must be given during the teaching. Guide the children in their thinking process and it will help them greatly.

- It is important for parents to let the child develop at his own speed. Do not burden the kid with too much, and too soon.

- There must be no other distraction such as tv or radio during the homeschooling. The children must learn to respect that there is a time for study and play.

- Bring the children to library and expose them to learning community. Create a conducive environment for your kid.

- Teach your child in a structure and methodical manner. Begin with the easy thing first and move on slowly to the more difficult one.

- Remember always that all work and no play will make your child dull. Allow him to indulge in activity that he loves. Find out what interests your child the most, it could be reading a story, computer games or playing with building blocks or modeling clay.

- Different educational material appeals to different type of learners. Workbooks, flashcards, matching games, instruction charts and books appeal to the more visual learners. Songs and rhymes and instruments please auditory learners and model kits, puzzles, typing and gardening etc are preferred mode of learning for the kinesthetic learners - understand your child preference.
